When you begin each download, you can also instruct the app to create a restore point, so that if anything goes wrong, you can recover your software intact up to that point. Once the scan is complete, you'll see a list of the programs with updates available, and you can opt to download that update straight through the app, or you can choose to ignore updates for certain programs.
